Mastering Analytical Paragraph Writing

Analytical Paragraph Writing

An analytical paragraph is written based on a given map, chart, graph, table, or clue. It requires you to carefully analyze the data, compare it, and summarize it in 100-120 words.

1. The Introduction 📌

Explain in 1-2 sentences what the graph or chart is about. Paraphrase the question. Use starters like: “The given pie chart illustrates…” or “The line graph depicts the trend of…”

2. The Body (Comparisons) ⚖️

This is the core. Do not just list the data! You must make comparisons. Mention the highest and lowest points. Contrast different items: “While X increased rapidly, Y plummeted.”

3. The Golden Rule 🚫

No Personal Opinions! You must strictly stick to the facts provided in the chart. Do not write “I think” or provide your own reasons for why a trend is happening unless it’s given in the data.

4. Trend Vocabulary 📈

Use precise words. For an increase: surged, skyrocketed, rose gradually. For a decrease: plummeted, declined steadily. For constant data: remained stable, stagnated.
