1. Change of Heart

Unit 4: Sports and Wellness | Poorvi

Quick Revision Notes

Characters: Prabhat (a boy obsessed with winning) and Surya (a new student who plays for fun).

The Problem: Prabhat could not accept defeat. He thought losing was the worst thing in the world. Because of this, he would only play games he was sure he could win, like badminton.

The Badminton Match: On the last Friday of the month, the coach organized a match between Prabhat and a new student, Surya. Surya was an excellent player but didn’t take it seriously; he just laughed and joked. Prabhat was the scorekeeper. Because he wanted to win so badly, Prabhat cheated by changing the scoreboard while Surya was distracted.

The Realization: Even though Prabhat won, he felt unhappy and guilty. The next day, he watched Surya play basketball terribly, yet Surya was smiling and enjoying himself completely.

The Change of Heart: By watching Surya, Prabhat realized that to enjoy a game, you don’t need a scoreboard. Winning or losing isn’t the point; enjoying the moment is. Prabhat changed his attitude, started playing games just for fun, and became known for having a great “sporting spirit.”
