Unit 1: Fables and Folk Tales | Poorvi

Quick Revision Notes

Characters: Rama Natha (a rich landlord’s son), Madhumati (his wife), Mahipati (a famous sage).

The Core Conflict: Rama Natha wasted his time and money searching for a magic potion that could turn objects into gold, neglecting his vast lands.

The Sage’s Trick: Sage Mahipati told him the potion required 5 litres of winter morning dew collected from banana plants he grew himself. Over six years, Rama Natha worked hard growing a huge banana plantation. While he collected the dew, his wife Madhumati secretly sold the banana crops for a massive profit.

The Moral: When the “potion” failed, the sage revealed the boxes of gold coins Madhumati earned. The true “magic” that turns things to gold is hard work and dedication.
