Informal Letter Writing
Informal letters are written to friends, family members, or relatives. Because they are personal, you do not need a “Subject” line or a receiver’s address. Master the layout below!
1. The Sender’s Details 📍
Write YOUR address at the top-left corner in 2-3 lines. Leave a line, then write the expanded Date (e.g., 20 March 2024). Do not write the receiver’s address.
2. Salutation & Subject 👋
Start with “Dear [First Name]” or “Dear Uncle”.
CRITICAL RULE: Never include a “Subject” line in an informal letter. Subjects are only for formal letters.
3. The 3-Para Body 📝
Para 1: Ask about their health and well-being.
Para 2: The main reason for writing the letter.
Para 3: Concluding wishes and paying respects to elders.
4. Subscription (Sign-off) ✍️
Use affectionate sign-offs like Yours lovingly, or Yours affectionately,. Do not use “Yours faithfully”. Sign with your first name only.
