Mastering Notice Writing

A Notice is a formal means of communication meant to announce an upcoming event, competition, or lost item. It must be brief, clear, and always enclosed in a box.

1. The Mandatory Box 🔲

A notice must always be drawn inside a neat box. You will automatically lose marks if you forget the box. Draw it with a pencil using a ruler.

2. The Top Section 🏢

Start with the Name of the Institution/School in the center. Below it, write the word NOTICE in capital letters. Then, write the date on the left side.

3. The 5 Ws (The Body) ✋

The body must be short (usually 50 words). It must answer: What is happening? When is it? Where is it? Who can participate? Whom to contact?

4. Tone & Sign-off ✍️

The tone must be formal. Never use “I” or “You” (use third-person passive voice). End with your Signature, your Name, and your Designation (e.g., Head Boy).
